We'll take care of you.

I was "privileged" to go through the car buying process two days ago and did all I could to avoid stereotyping the car salesmen....but every single person I talked to fulfilled the stereotype to the fullest extent. From the moment I pulled up to the dealership I watched the whole process unfold. Don't get me wrong I understand its their job, and they are trying to make money like any other American, that doesn't bother me. What does bother me is their "words of comfort" during it all. It seems like, without fail, the salesman is always introduced as someone who will take care of you. The salesman starts out very enthusiastic and happy to be with you, he proceeds to become your best friend as you test drive different choices and ask questions. The Salesman I had was a great guy who was "on my side" the whole time...until it came to purchasing. "You are in luck because you and your brother know (we'll use Jake,) you have the upper hand because you know someone you'll get the lowest price and best deal. How I got them to come 3000 dollars lower than their original "best price for the friend discount offer" somehow doesn't make me feel like there words held any validity. It only took us 2 hours to get to that point, after dealing with, what becomes the third man (the salesman) and the other person he always has to go to behind closed doors. Our best friend the salesman slowly faded out of the picture and didn't want anything to do with us...weird? Hearing it all from, we can't go any lower than 1,000 dollars its the "absolute lowest we can go" to what do we need to do to keep your business, and of course... We'll take care of you guys!

All I ask is where is that one dealership that will save you and them the time and hassle and just sell you the car so they can make their commission, but not charge you 2000 dollars over what you could pay. Its a joke! There has to be someone out there that will actually hold to their promise of "We'll take care of you."No wonder no one is buying cars! Oh ya, and I'm sure that whole economy thing probably has a little to do with it.
