My suicidal Beta Fish

During the summer, my friends and I thought it would be great fun to get a beta fish. I really wanted an animal, and a fish was my only option because it sits in a bowl and doesn't get the apartment dirty. After the summer was over, everyone moved away and since it was kind of my idea to get him in the first place, I ended up with Bert, the fish.

I've discovered that my beta fish is more work than I originally thought. In order to keep him alive, we have to clean his bowl all the time and feed him night and morning. It's not really that much work, it just requires taking time out of my day to actually take care of him.

Bert is a suicidal fish! One day my friend walked by Bert's fishbowl and noticed that he had jumped out of the water onto a little lily pad that floats at the top of his bowl. She pushed him back into the water, and a few minutes later, he had jumped onto the lily pad again! He has also jumped out of the spoon multiple times onto the counter when I have been trying to transfer him to new water, so I can clean his bowl.

He's also kind of fun to play around with sometimes, too. If you stick a mirror in front of him, he gets all mad and flairs out his fins. Male beta fish don't like other beta fish, so the mirror makes him think that he has some competition, even though he's only looking at the reflection of himself.

Even though Bert is suicidal, he's a good fish. Just keep swimming!
